Gallantry: A Lesson from an Easter Egg Hunt
Dear friends, today I’d like to share a story from my past that taught me a valuable lesson about gallantry. It’s a tale that takes place on a sunny Easter Sunday, during an egg hunt that was more than just a game.
The Easter Egg Hunt
Many moons ago, when I was just a lad, our small town would host an annual Easter egg hunt. The event was a spectacle, with children from all over town gathering in the park, their eyes gleaming with anticipation. The prize? A golden egg, hidden amongst the countless pastel-colored ones. The child who found this golden egg would be awarded a year’s supply of sweets from Old Man Jenkins’ candy store.
The Golden Egg
One particular year, I spotted the golden egg nestled in the roots of an old oak tree. Just as I was about to claim my prize, I noticed little Sally Thompson, a girl from my class who was always picked last for games, looking forlorn and disheartened. She hadn’t found a single egg.
The Act of Gallantry
In that moment, I made a decision that would shape my understanding of gallantry for the rest of my life. I called Sally over and pointed her towards the golden egg. The joy on her face as she found it was worth more than any amount of sweets.
The Lesson Learned
Gallantry, my friends, is not about grand gestures or heroic acts. It’s about showing kindness and consideration, even when no one is watching. It’s about putting others before yourself, not for recognition, but because it’s the right thing to do.
So, as we approach this Easter season, I encourage you all to remember the true spirit of gallantry. Look for opportunities to show kindness and consideration. You never know how much a small act can mean to someone else.
Until next time, remember to be gallant in your actions and kind in your words.
Yours in wisdom,
Kev
