Living in the Present: A Lesson in Nurturing

Dear friends, today I’d like to share a story from my past, a tale that taught me the importance of nurturing and living in the present. It’s a lesson I’ve carried with me throughout my life, and I hope it will resonate with you as well.

The Seed of Life

Many years ago, when I was just a young lad, my father gave me a small, seemingly insignificant seed. He told me, “Kev, this is a living thing. It’s your responsibility to nurture it, to help it grow.” I was intrigued, and so, I took the seed and planted it in our backyard.

The Daily Ritual

Every day, I would water the seed, ensuring it had enough sunlight and shade. I was living in the present, focusing on the task at hand, not worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. The seed, in its own way, was teaching me to be patient, to be mindful, and to appreciate the beauty of the present moment.

The Growth

Weeks turned into months, and to my delight, the seed sprouted into a tiny sapling. I was overjoyed! My nurturing had paid off. But, my father reminded me, “Kev, this is just the beginning. The real nurturing starts now.”

The Lesson

As I continued to care for the sapling, it grew into a strong, beautiful tree. I realized then, that nurturing isn’t just about helping something grow. It’s about being present, being patient, and understanding that growth takes time. It’s about realizing that the journey is just as important as the destination.
