Life Lesson from the Game Board: The Virtue of Carefulness
Hello friends, this is Kev once again bringing you a chronicle from my life. This week I’d like to share a story centred around something we all love – board games. More than the thrilling competition and family camaraderie they bring, there’s also wisdom to unearth if we look closely enough. Today, let’s focus on perhaps an obscure virtue yet one that can make significant difference in various facets of our lives – Carefulness.
The Lady Bug Game
The Lady Bug game’ was a deceptively simple board game that became an annual summer staple by our lakeside cabin; kids would hustle each other for pieces while adults fondly reminisced their own days of glory as past Grand Champions. But lulling beneath its innocent veneer was a potent lesson waiting to be gleaned.
“Success stems not solely from speed or strength but often with thoughtful precision”
Careful Beginnings
You see, in the ‘Lady Bug’ board game’, going fast doesn’t necessarily translate into moving ahead. On multiple occasions did my grandkids rush their turn only to later yell out “Oops!”, having missed out on key advantages en route due because they moved without paying careful attention.
This immediately brought back memories of when I missed picking up double bonuses as a child myself because I lacked patience – rushing through my moves rather than carefully calculating them.
A Lesson Learnt
This turns more profund if we think about it. Whether navigating the journey in boardgames or life itself, speed without consideration seldom leads to victory .
“Rush creates chaos and chaos can rarely find equilibrium”.
